Dear Neighbors,
Here is the latest information we have regarding the new trash and recycling program containers that were distributed in the neighborhood by our trash collection provider, WCA. The trash collection service is contracted through Memorial MUD District, not Oak Park Trails HOA, so we have tried to collect the most accurate information possible to answer your many questions. Please let us know if you have any additional questions and we will do what we can to try to get answers. Please remember that all trash and recycle containers MUST be stored out of view from the street on non trash collection days! Please take the time now to find a place to store your trash and recycle containers. Failure to do so will result in a courtesy notice for this deed restriction violation. If the violation is not remedied, additional notices will be sent out until the violation is corrected.
We hope that is information is helpful!
Q: Why the new blue Trash cans?
A: A new contract was negotiated between Memorial MUD district and WCA, the trash service provider. The new blue trash bins were a part of the new contract and will be a part of automated collection process in the coming year.
Q: Do we have to use the new blue trash cans?
A: Yes, use of the cans is mandatory. Since the automated collection process is not in place yet, trash placed at the curb in other containers or plastic bags may still be collected but once the automated collection process is in place in 2015, all household trash must be placed in the blue cans for collection.
Q: One of the blue trash bins is not enough for my family. Can I get an additional one?
A: Yes, please let us know your street address and we will notify WCA to drop off another of the blue trash bins. Send an email to board@oakparktrails,org to make this request.
Q: I want to dispose of my old trash cans now that I have been issued the new one. How can I do this?
A: To dispose of your old trash can, place a large “X” on the side of the can and put it out curbside with your other trash on trash day.
Q: Did our trash collection days change?
A: No, household trash is still collected on Tuesdays and Fridays every week.
Q: I don’t want to use the large blue trash container. Can I have it picked up by WCA?
A: No – WCA will not pick up the new containers since they must be used and are a part of a future automated trash collection program. At that time use of the new blue cans will be mandatory so please begin using them now to ensure a good transition to the automated program at a later date.
Recycle Program Q&A
Q: Why were we issued new recycle bins?
A: Due to a change in the equipment utilized for recycling program collection, and the new contract with Memorial MUD district and WCA, the new recycling program containers were issued to every household in Memorial MUD district, which includes all of Oak Park Trails. The new recycle bins are dark grey in color, just like the old ones.
Q: My old recycle bin has not been picked up yet. When will this happen?
A: WCA is planning another mass collection of the old recycle containers, This should happen around the end of October, but the date is not confirmed yet. Please watch for information from the Memorial MUD District in the mail, and we will send out the information via email and the Oak Park Trails Facebook page once we are informed of the date.
Q: Did our recycle program collection days change?
A: Yes, recycling is still collected on Fridays, but it is also now collected on Tuesdays as well.
To reiterate: Please remember that Oak Park Trails deed restrictions state that ALL trash and recycling containers MUST be stored out of view on non-trash collection days. Please store all containers for trash and recycling in your garage or behind your fence! If your trash cans are left out and visible from the street, you will receive a courtesy notice to correct this deed restriction violation. Notices will continue every month until the violation is corrected. Enforcement of deed restriction violations may include legal action if not corrected within 90 days.
Please take time now to find a place to store your trash and recycle program containers so that they are out of view from the street.
