As a part of the Harris County Flood Control District’s overall maintenance operations, the Flood Control District is undertaking multiple comprehensive projects to evaluate and repair several channel segments that flow into the Barker Reservoir. The Barker Reservoir is owned and operated by the US Army Corps of Engineers.
The Barker Repair Package 1 will address erosion and slope failures that have occurred within the Flood Control District rights-of-way and/or within the channel itself. The work will also include repairs to concrete structures and address outfall failures. Construction on this Repair Package is expected to begin in Winter 2022/23 and anticipated to complete in Spring 2024.
The scope of work for this project will take place along Mason Creek and a tributary of Upper Buffalo Bayou. The repair project, Z100-00-00-X310, represents a combination of construction activities along one (1) channel and a single tributary.
Residents in the neighborhoods surrounding Mason Creek and a separate tributary may begin to see construction-related vehicles in these areas, which will include dump trucks and other heavy machinery. Residents are urged to respect all warning signs and avoid trails and sidewalks that may be temporarily impacted as work crews move around the area.
The Flood Control District works to reduce flooding across the region and is committed to keeping residents informed. For more information on this project or other Flood Control District projects, please visit https://www.hcfcd.org/F52.
